lunar new years in Vietnam

On the monkey bridge
Over the last few days I have taken 2 trips w/ my buddy Andrew to explore other parts of Vietnam.  My first trip was on Sunday and I went to the Cu Chi Tunnels.  The tunnels are very famous Vietnam War tunnels and the Vietnamese used them as undergroud passageways and cities during the war against as the propoganda video we saw called us "The American Invaders from Washington D.C."  First we saw the original holes they went in and they were less than a foot by foot square so we dont know how they fit in them.  We saw some other entrances and then saw some Vietnamese traps they used during the war along with some of their clothing and weapons from both sides of the war.  We then saw some of the typcal food they made, including a rice paper demo and then to finish we got to try some tapioca root which wasn't too bad.

The last two days Andrew and I along with a tour group went to the Mekong Delta.  Yesterday we left Siagon and arrived first at a honey farm where they are known for making all types of honey.  We got to try honey tea, and honey rice wine while eating fresh fruit and listening to some live traditional vietnamese music.  We then took a boat trip down the river further into the Mekong and went to a candy factory where we also got to hold a huge live snake!  We finished by visiting the largest Chinese bogada in the Mekong Delta.  We went back into the city for the night and we went to a vietnamese restaurant by the river and Andrew got crocodile and I got wild boar.  Both were interesting and good.  We walked around the city some and then went back for the night.  We began today by taking a boat ride to the floating market which is very famous in Vietnam but because of the lunar new year going on it was not as busy as usual but still fun.  We started by going to a farm where we saw them making rice noodles and also some piglets and a HUGE momma pig.  We went to a tropical fruit farm after that and saw all kinds of fruit trees and got to walk accross a monkey bridge which is a bridge made only with bamboo thats very thin.  Now I am back in Saigon and Pritch is gonna be here in a few hours!  Then Tokyo on Monday and home on Saturday!

Africa Part 2

On our 4th day in Africa we went to Lake Manyara part which was much different and more jungle like then the rest of the parks.  This park was pretty much overrun by baboons and we also found a hippo pool and watched as 8 of them came out onto land.  On the 5th day we drove to the Serengeti and stopped to look into the huge Ngorogoro crater.  We got to watch a lion stalk a group of gazelles and then saw a cheetah too!  Lastly we saw some lion cubs.  TBC tomorrow...
